Snowboarder Profile: Kevin Young



In the early 1990’s freestyle snowboarding was in its child years and new tricks were constantly invented. It was all a white fresh canvas for the young riders that moulded the sport that everyone refers to as the Shaun White sport. Way before the young “Flying Tomato” even stand on a board legends of the sport were defining and experiencing tricks, jumps, transitions, etc.


One thing that constantly stuck with the evolution of the sport is the style, fluidity, and natural talent. As long as pros can do triple corks or 360 board slides to 180 out. They have to make it look easy and fun. This is why Canadian snowboarder Kevin Young who rode for K2, Shorty’s (yes the same company that makes skateboards), and Atlantis (now known as Allian Snowboards). He had pro models at the three companies that sponsored him. He was first sponsored by Westbeach one of the most well known Canadian snowboard outerwear company.

In 1993, alongside Ingemar Backman KY invented the inverted trick called the Rodeo Flip. – “All next season kids crash on their heads’ trying to get inverted.”

Around the ending of the 1990’s KY was riding for Atlantis and he slowly disappeared from the map. This Profile wants to be a source of info for the future generations of snowboarders.
