Overall Feel
The Landlord is an easy to ride directionnal camber board that rides like a lot of the latter years Burton freeride board with the rocker nose and the camber under the back foot. This makes this board easier to manoeuver everywhere but with a surprising twist.
Powder
It is his natural habitat, one of the best days I had last year was an early morning just after a nice Quebec snowstorm and I had one side of the resort almost only for me and I could just make my turns and see them in the chairlift after. The board floats and turns like a fish in the water. Effortless slashes and edge turns in more than a feet of powder.
Carving and turning
One of its strenghts is how easy you can turn this board even if the flex would tell you otherwise. The setback camber, taper, and sidecut makes it a very reliable board. The Landlord owns the carving section of the mountain but if you ask me there are other boards that can lay a carve better and I thought it was good to very good but not excellent in this department.
Speed
With its core and construction, the Landlord can handle speed and it stays stable almost like a Custom X or like my Speed Date.
Uneven Terrain
It is a tank and nothing can attain the stability of it. Huge slush banks was its end when it came to stability which is okay because it is great everywhere else.
Jumps
It will get you the extra mile that you need when hitting the park line and just like the tech that is similar to what they put in a Custom X you will have your ass saved. This is not a park board but it can handle the occasionnal jumps. I would not put this on rails or boxes but it will handle them.
Verdict
As in the line of Burton's all-mountain freeride boards like the Supermodel, the Barracuda, the Flight Attendant, the Landlord could be a quiver killer for the right rider. Personally, I owned it for one season and I loved it everytime I got it on snow. However, as I still ride a 2009 Supermodel 163 cm and a Speed Date 156 cm, the Landlord seemed to overlap both and the directional camber was off putting for me as I prefered the Supermodel's trad camber.
This board has a lot to offer especially if you often have fresh snow and can ride powder often. It can handle a lot and I loved it because I always loved those all-mountain freeride board from Burton. But it rides just like a B board and if you already have one of the following maybe look elsewhere (Barracude, Supermodel, Flight Attendant, Malolo) if not, try to find one on the Family Tree Vault oy any other Facebook group that solds used boards.
Now go out and ride!
